Building Stronger Communities Since 1983

Because We All Deserve a
Place Where We Belong.

All communities, from the urban apartments of San Diego to the small town-feel of Stockton, have individuals with a variety of experiences and disabilities who need meaningful support to live independently, build confidence, and feel connected to the communities they call home. Adjoin exists to provide that support, creating pathways for people to discover their strengths, form authentic relationships, and thrive.

Answering the call to serve one’s country is among the highest forms of selflessness, requiring sacrifice, commitment, and resilience. Women who enter military service deserve special recognition for the strength it takes to answer that call, create a career in a male-dominated field, and reestablish stability after the military. Geraldine, a U.S. Navy veteran who dedicated 14 years to our country, is one of many veterans whose resilience continues long after her time in uniform.

In 2020, after navigating the difficult transition from military to civilian life, Geraldine faced a crisis no veteran should ever experience: the threat of homelessness. As a single mother with two children, the fear of losing her home weighed heavily on her as she searched for housing and tried to connect with family for support. Determined to rebuild stability for her kids, Geraldine reached out to the Adjoin during one of the most uncertain moments of her life.

With Adjoin’s support covering move-in costs and rental assistance, Geraldine and her two children secured a safe, stable home. Adjoin emphasizes choice and dignity, allowing veterans like Geraldine the autonomy to choose where they would like to live. She found a home in a neighborhood that gave her the room to breathe, heal, grow, and move forward. Her son and daughter were able to finish the school year, enjoy summer, and return to the rhythm of normal life.

“Because of Adjoin, I am now
on a journey to home
ownership in Georgia.”

Stability is the foundation for transformation. Geraldine now answers a different call to serve, the call to help her fellow veterans through their struggles after hanging up their uniform. Driven by a deep desire to create a better future for her family, Geraldine is now working at a local nonprofit serving fellow veterans, turning her lived experience into compassion and advocacy for others. She is also pursuing her master’s in social work, with a powerful vision of starting her own nonprofit to uplift veterans facing the same struggles she once endured.

Geraldine’s experience reflects what Adjoin makes possible when veterans are met not just with gratitude, but with meaningful action. Through stability, dignity, and a supportive community, Adjoin helps veterans heal, give back, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
